I lost the election because of Money power blame Dr Fenela

 

Shillong, March 8: An HSPDP candidate from Mawthadraishan Constitueny Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait extend her gratitude to her supporters who have been there for her during the election.

Though she could not secure her seat in the state assembly 2013, Nonglait said that her lost would not deter her from serving the people of the state however she will continue to strive ahead and continued with  her social service for the benefit of the people at large.

Dr Nonglait who lost to UDP candidate Brolding Nongsiej by a margin of 424 votes was confident to emerge victorious in the recent election as per the party’s analysis. However, she claimed that her votes mostly from Mairang area were lost in the last hours of the polling day.

“Money power played a big role in the recent elections, and I have seen it with my eyes how money has been distributed to the people, an amount ranging upto Rs 50,000 by my opponents”, Dr Nonglait said adding that there were people from Mairang rim area who called her up and confessed that they had fallen prey to the bribery.

Nonglait while addressing a press conference in the city here on Friday extend her gratitude to her supports for supporting her even as she became emotional while stating that during her contest she goes by the policy of clean politics so as to remove the corruption from the state.

Stating that her party stands for clean politics, the Dr Nonglait said that all through the elections she had neither encouraged bribery nor corruption. “I have not gone astray by being involved in dirty politics, by buying off the voters to acquire a seat in the legislative assembly”, she said.

Dr Fenela L Nonglait on Friday blamed the use of money power and ignorance of the people as the main reasons which led to her defeat in the 2013 Assembly polls.

President of the HSPDP Mawthadraishan circle Tuberlin Lyngdoh said that prior to the elections, the UDP candidate had himself confessed that he will spend over Rs 2 crores in the elections, “However, the actual amount spent by him is not known, but we do know that the amount had exceeded the Rs 2 crores admitted by him”, he added.

A doctorate in Law, Dr Nonglait said that being elected to the Assembly to her does not only mean distributing schemes in her constituency, but rather it is to build a concrete gate to ensure the safety and protection of the indigenous community.

“I admit that I have less experience in politics and I also have no money to offer, but I will not back down, rather, I will continue to fight for the rights and protection of my people. This failure has further strengthened and boost my confident to do better next time”, she added.

Reacting to a query on whether she will contest for MDC elections, Dr Nonglait said “I planned to, but that depends on the party’s decision.”

Commenting on the possibilities of the EVM machine being easily tampered, the HSPDP candidate said that she have full faith in the Election Commission and the whole election process. “I don’t have proof to substantiate my allegations against the inefficiently and tampering of the EVMs”, she said.

She also informed that the HSPDP Mawthadraishan circle will bring out a quarterly newspaper titled ‘Khubor Mawthadraishan’ which is still undergoing a registration process. “We will include articles of intellectuals from the areas to highlight on various issues”, she said adding that she will continue to spread awareness to the people on various issues pertaining to the state and its people.

“I will make them understand that elections is not a one-day affairs but a five year plan which decides the fate of the constituency and the state as a whole”, she added.(SP News)
