ILP is not helping any state but creates a negative impact on the growth of the state: Dr Mukul

Shillong, Nov 28: Stating that the rising demand for ILP in Assam a major concern,  Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul sangma said that Assam has a bigger issue of illegal immigrant.“It become a matter of bigger concern,” Dr. Sangma said

“Now you have to critically analyse why this demand is coming from Assam, why Assam feels that we also should be the state where ILP should be implemented. May be they must have implemented through the principle act of Bengal Regulation Act of 1873  when the application of the Bengal Frontier Regulation act of 1873 was applicable to many districts which now falls under  Assam like Kamrup, Nogaon, Lakhimpur etc. So they must have gone through application of the principle act thinking that those part of Assam was under  the purview of same regulation,” He said.

He further said, “ They have bigger problem of illegal immigration.” “Our concern about illegal immigration is born out of the fact that our neibouring state has the big chunk of illegal immigration,” Dr. Sangma said.

Reacting to a query about the Inner Line Permit (ILP), he said that the State Government cannot amend the act and the request of the Government will not be of any priority for most of the  MPs who are from  other states.

“ILP is not helping any state  but creates a negative impact on the growth of the state,” Sangma said when asked about the demands of the pressure groups to implement Inner Line Permit in the state.

According to Sangma, there is a need to analyses as why ILP demands is coming though.

“if all states implement ILP then what will happen to us  then even We will need  permission to go to other states,” he said ‘

He even stressed on the need of having a national data to determine the  genuine Indian citizen and an illegal immigrant. (SP News)
