Shillong, March 25: The National Council of Churches in India – Commission on Justice, Peace and Creation invites all Christian and other faith based communities to join a PRAYER CAMPAIGN during the holy week (24th March to 30th March 2013) for World Peace – World without War, Weapons and Violence.
This Prayer Campaign awakens us to hope in God whose “Peace, Justice and Love endures forever” and to struggle against anthropogenic disasters and deaths that leads the world communities away from the love of God and neighbors.
The World Council of Churches initiated a campaign to negotiate with different countries the reduction of weapon production, trade and military expenses as by the Arm Trade Treaty Campaign (ATT Campaign). We, the NCCI, are also part of this campaign in reminding and demanding that the Government of India reduce their budget to purchase arms and weapons and budget on defense.
Now, the WCC – ATT campaign is lobbying at the UN with all countries to be part of the ATT Campaign. It has met with great success with the campaign influencing over 69 countries to work at zero-violence and death including gender and generation based violence. The Campaign is in a crucial time and needs your prayerful partnership and participation. We invite you to join us to uphold this campaign in your personal and congregational prayers. Let us ask the God of Peace to speak to the Country heads to have a vision for World without War, Weapons and violence.
God is calling us to be the change we long to see. Let us engage in this spiritual exercise, grateful for all God has entrusted to us, and trusting that, with God all things are possible. Let’s make our season of lent meaningful.(SP News)
