Shillong, May 14: The big question is that “ is panchayats institution exist in Meghalaya” The MLA of Nongkrem Mr Ardent Basaiawmoit along with the Dorbar shnong of Madanriting met the District Council Affair Minister HDR Lyngdoh asking the government to take action to thus self style panchayats who issued birth and residential certificate.
In the meeting Mr Basaiawmoit express his concern over the continual issuance of birth certificate and residential certificate to non tribals by Happy Valley Gorkha Patshala. Nongkrem MlA and the Dorbar Shnong of Madanriting demanded that stringent action should be taken against those involved.
Concerned over the existing illegal issuance of birth and residential certificates, the MLA along with the members of the Dorbar met the District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh on Tuesday to apprise him of the situation besides submitting the documents as to prove on the existence of such illegal institutions.
“We apprised the minister today of the active function of the institution after the latter had expressed ignorance of the existence of the same at the floor of the house recently”, Basaiawmoit told reporters here after the meeting.
Besides questioning the district administration who accept such fake document and enroll those people in the electoral roll he also demanded that all the names of those persons that are not recognized by the dorbar shnong should be immediately cancelled from the electoral roll.
Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong Madanriting has reiterated their stand stating that they will not accept the existence and functioning of such institutions even if they are recognized by the district administration or the government.
Basaiawmoit also informed that the minister HDR Lyngdoh had assured to look into the matter and agreed to communicate with the dorbar shnong on this matter on Wednesday after the issue has been taken up with the officers concerned.(SP News)
