Shillong, Aug 2: Marking the success of the first Khasi lady to scale Mount Everest Wansuk Myrthong, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF, Meghalaya organised a felicitation ceremony at ITBPF on Friday.
Addressing the gathering ITBP IG North East frontier, RK Saini said that ITBPF is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers.
Lauding the efforts of Myrthong the first women police constable of the first Meghalaya police battalion for her success, Saini said “ITBP will render all help to all the interested youths in the field of mountaineering from the entire NE region,” Saini said.
It was also informed that ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border and manning Border Outposts on altitudes raging from 9000’ to 18700’ in the Western, Middle and Eastern Sector of the Indo-China Border.
It may also be mentioned here that Myrthong undergone Basic Mountaineering Course at Mountaineering and Skiing Institute, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Auli, Uttarkhand securing impressive grades.
Sharing her experinces of the expedition Myrthong said that she had to faced many challenges to reach her goal.
Leaving harships behind Myrthong said that her only focus was to overcome her fears but to reach the pinnacle of the highest peak and with that determination she overcome her dream.
It may be mentioned here that Myrthong’s other participations include, 10th North East Zone Sports Climbing Committee held at Kangla Rock Wall at Minuthong, Manipur and was adjudged Best Senior Climber in the Women’s open Category bagging two gold medals, one silver out of three events.
Besides, she also participated in the Pre-Everest Expedition on Kolahai Peak (5425 mtr) and in the High Altitude Physical Conditioning to Mt. Papsura (6451 mtr) in Himachal Pradesh organized by MMTA, Imphal.(SP News)
