Shillong, Aug 5:Concerning over the growing number of cases related to superstitious beliefs Chairman of Grand Council of Chiefs John F Kharshiing said that there is a need of spreading awareness among the people not to fall into superstitious beliefs.
Lamenting that there is a huge gap of communication between the people from the rural areas and that of the district administration and the KHADC, Kharshiing while talking to reporters on Monday said, “There is a need for a mechanism which will consider the KHADC law and the district administration in order to provide awareness among the people of the rural areas,” adding “However, there is shortage of manpower to spread such awareness among the people.”
While expressing concern over the augment of inhuman acts related to superstition cases in the state Kharshiing said that the need of the hour is to spread awareness among the people besides there is also a need for a creation of a forum, which keeps laws, regulations and acts related to customery laws updated.
Reacting strongly over the inhumane act involve by the members of the Dorbar where accused of practicing witchcraft were made to eat human excreta, he said that they should know that one is not living in the 17th or the 18th century.
“We have been planning to volunteer an ‘advocacy programme’ in all villages and it should be done with active involvement at all levels,” he asserted.Meanwhile, Kharshiing urged the various village heads not to fall into superstition.(SP News)
