Shillong, August 20: The Khasi Hills Tourists Taxi Association (KHTTA) today organized a felicitation program wherein thirteen senior drivers and the members of the association were felicitated for serving in the profession.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the State Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that after the commissioning of the Shillong-Bye pass, traffic congestion has been eased in the state and the scope for finding parking space will be exploded by the government.
Lyngdoh further said that the government is very keen is addressing the issue of the Association.
“I have spoken about the various issues faced by the association with the chief minister, Dr Mukul Sangma and he has assured that he will look into the matter at the earliest,” Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh informed that the chief minister has also announced ‘drivers pension scheme and emergency scheme’ for the benefit of the people.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were the President of Shillong Press Club, David O Laitphlang who said that in Northeast, Meghalaya is one of most visited states and tourist cabbie are the first link to bring people to the state.
“Drivers of the association are the first link to our state and young drivers should be more polite in their approach in welcoming the tourists,” Laitphlang said.(SP News)
