Shillong, Dec 20: Concerned over the Assam government’s propose project to dam the Khri river (Kyrshai) of West Khasi Hills district for its proposed 2 MW micro-hydel power project, the KSU Central Body urged upon the state government to take precautions measures and discuss with the Assam government on the plan.
According to the KSU vice president Fredrick Kharmawphlang, around 26 villages will be affected by this move including Kyrshai village, Nongspung under Hima Rambrai in West Khasi Hills and Rajabala in Ri Bhoi under Hima Nongkhlaw.
It may be reminded that the KSU Rambrai Circle on October 24 visited the site of a proposed 2 MW micro-hydel power project in Khri River (Kyrshai) of West Khasi Hills by the Assam government and gathered that the proposed Dam will affect the fragile ecosystem of the area and flora and fauna of that area.
It may be mentioned here that earlier the HSPDP and maintained that the party would not allow the hydel project to come up at the Khri river at any cost since the proposed site of the dam is falling under the ‘disputed areas’.(SP News)
