KWWADA and CSWO has strongly condemned the administration for instigating the youth

Shillong, Sept 26: In a press statement undersigned by Nebi Rapthap President of Khasi Women Welfare and Development Association (KWWADA) and Agnes Kharshiing, President of Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) has strongly condemned the administration for instigating the youths.

According to the press release, “We condemn the cheap tricks of some in the administration, whereby they literally allowed a group of drunks to gather outside the student’s field and instigate the youth there to walk towards Mothphran from Mission Compound.”

The release also stated that, “Inspector Ralte and Inspector Jyoti Wahlang were witness that we broke off peacefully and as we came out we heard the group starting to shout and the KWWADA and the CSWO were the ones who sent their members to disperse that group. If the Police and the Magistrate could stop women from protesting at the Addl Sect, what held them back from stopping that group that moved towards Motphran.?”

“The attack on the Police personnel especially the women Police is highly condemnable and will not be tolerated in a decent society. These Police are just doing their duty and did not use force on the women when we were taken to the Jaiaw Students field,” read the release.

The release also said, “Knowing that there could be opportunists, especially when the situation is volatile the administration should have put police there near the venue, but knowing that there are police who are also instrumental in toppling Governments, they seemed to intentionally not stop the group and allowed to proceed so far till Mothphran knowing of the tense situation.”

The release stated that, “The Government took a risk even at the cost of injury to their own staff.  The woman groups have a constitutional right to protest and we did just that and we never brought out a rally.”

According to the press release, “The Administration knew that if the protest was allowed at the Additional Secretariat there would be no trouble, so they intentionally kidnapped us to the Jaiaw students field anticipating that there would be elements outside who would take advantage. Even lay people can understand such strategies and how is it that the Police did not foresee this and risked their own getting injured.”

“The protest is legitimate, as the women folk and the public at large have had enough of this dictatorship, as this is tribal land protected by the sixth schedule and we cannot see it being bitten to pieces by hungry wolves in the guise of companies and fake universities, big business men, and many in Governance,” stated the release.(SP News)
