Lady Keane College today inaugurated the Keanean Guest House at Mawphlang

Shillong, May 13, 2014: With the initiative to develop tourism in the state of Meghalaya, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Travel & Tourism Department (TTM) of Lady Keane College today inaugurated the Keanean Guest House at Mawphlang, Shillong.

Congratulating the efforts taken by the Lady Keane College, Chief Minister Dr Mukul  Sangma gracing the occasion as chief guest said that tourism is one sector that can generate employment to half of the Population of the state.

“Creating a unique place available to see and believe for the people for something new to embark,  people are capable of replicating anything good and hence  the approach is realistic in view of the various potentialities we need to be identified and we need to structure those entrepreneurship,” said Dr Mukul.

Dr Mukul further said, “Meghalaya have potentialities but we are not able to harness therefore it’s like an area for entrepreneurship which is huge in terms of scales which is waiting to be tapped.”

Dr Mukul later said, “With the kind of products identified and  designed to be marketable I hope Lady Keane College will make Meghalaya a destination for tourism,” adding, “Today tourists travelling across are looking for the  products which are unique and exclusive therefore we should create a platform for stake holders to understand the potentiality so that it becomes the reason for the tourist to come to our state.”

In conclusion Dr Mukul stated that people will come to Shillong only if things are unique  adding, “Unique things shall revolve around, the god gifted natural beauty of the state and also the culture music put together will  ensure exclusivity ,so that one  can go share with others which will have much more positive vibes for the state.”

Keanean Guest House is located at Mawphlang is an initiative for providing an accommodation facility in order to introduce an important element that can help the people of Mawphlang tap into the ever burgeoning tourism market.

Mawphlang having a major dearth of accommodation due to lack of investment in hotels and resorts but is one of the most visited areas in Meghalaya owing to its sacred groves and preserved social traditions.(SP News)
