Lapang, cautioned the society and the government to be vigilant of fake institutions

Shillong, July 9: Aiming at encouraging the outstanding students for their brilliant result in the Board examinations, the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE) organised the first ever mega student felicitation programme for the toppers of this year’s SSLC and HSSLC examination at Anton Hall, St Anthony’s HS School, Don Bosco Square here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the occasion former chief minister of Meghalaya, DD.Lapang observed that there is a need to restore the status of Meghalaya as the educational hub of the North east.

Acknowledging  the role played by privates sectors in surging up the educational scene, Lapang, however cautioned the society and the government to be vigilant in ensuring that education is not converted into a ‘mere commercial activity,’ and to prevent fake institutions from taking the youth for a ride.

Expressing the need for students to set their minds focus towards education, Minister of Science and Technology, Ampareen Lyngdoh, observed that nothing less than excellence is required in this era of competition for the students to secure a brighter future.

Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University,(NEHU), prof V.Shukla observed that felicitation of students is a way of letting them know that their hardwork is recognised and appreciated by all which in turn will motivate them further in their future endeavours.

Lauding the initiative of (ERDF) in taking cognisance on the welfare of the students, former Education Minister, Manas Chaudhuri, said that the steps taken by ERDF will help contribute in elevating the educational scenario of the state.

Expressing delight on girls outnumbering boys in the list of toppers, Pro vice chancellor,(NEHU), P.Myrboh, said that this was the reflection of  the state’s  commitment towards women empowerment.

Apart from excelling in the educational front, working towards becoming a good citizen is a must, observed former chief minister, Dr. Don Kupar Roy.

Meanwhile, soon after the felicitation ceremony , a panel discussion on ‘Higher Education in Meghalaya: Challenges Ahead’ was conducted and was  jointly moderated by Manas Chaudhuri and Dr Manash Das Gupta, head of department of  Chemistry, St Anthony’s College Shillong.

The interactive session was conducted in the presence of all the senior faculty of USTM, including Dr. P.G. Rao, Pro-Chancellor (Honorary), USTM, Dr. C. R. Sarkar, Registrar, USTM, Dr. Aloka Sharma, Dean School of Business Sciences, Dr. D Baishya, Dean School of Media Sciences and Cultural Studies among others.(SP News)
