Lions Club holds 2nd annual cabinet meeting in Shillong

Tura, 25th Oct: The Lions Club of Tura, one of the fastest growing Lions Clubs within the North East region as well as winner of various regional awards this year, held a 2 day annual cabinet meeting in Pinewood Hotel in Shillong. The meeting was held on the 19th and 20th of the month of October and spoke of the achievements and the future course of action for the NGO. Tura, the district 322D of the NGO was the host of the meeting, with eleven members of the Tura chapter braving bandhs and blockades to ensure the event was a huge success.

The meeting was presided by Lion L N Agarwala, the District Owner with the President of the Tura Lions Club, Kamal Agarwala giving the opening welcome address. A few achievements of the Tura chapter came to be highlighted including the proposed Eye Hospital in Tura, which the President said was to start soon.

The meeting was attended by 77 cabinet members of various Lions Clubs of the region and praised the membership growth of the club within Tura and the quick felicitation of the Melvin John Fellow achievement award for the President for the dedication of the team to the cause of Humanitarian services.

Kamal Agarwala said, “We have been trying our best to achieve success in various endeavours for the Club. We have been distributing free fruits to the Leprosy Colony of Tura, which we have identified as an ideal village for humanitarian services. We are on the verge of opening a new waiting shed as well as start the new eye hospital in Tura which will benefit the people of the region. Our membership has grown very quickly as more and more people join us to help those in need.  The meeting has been a success for us as we had to travel through troubled times to come and get together for this important meeting. Thankfully our efforts have been recognized and we hope to continue the good work in the future as well”.

Altogether 9 members of the Tura chapter went to Shillong for the meeting, including the Regional Chairman, Treasurer and other members of the Club. (SP News)
