Shillong Nov 24: Even after one year of the inauguration of the housing project for slum dwellers in Mawprem sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban renewal Mission, there has been no sign of initiating the project till the very date.
It may be mentioned here that on Novemebr 19, 2011, the foundation stone for the project construction was laid by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma in presence of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh in a much publicized event.
However, the delay in initiating the construction has has drawn flaks from members of the Mawprem dorbar shnong who alleged politicking by some vested interest as the main reason.
Expressing strong resentment over the delay, the members of the Mawprem Dorbar Shnong on Saturday stated that they would shortly chalk out a course of action if the delay in the housing project persists.
Informing reporters on Saturday after the General Meeting of the Dorbar Shnong Mawprem, they said it was state the MUDA gave Flimsy excuses over the delay. The CL company HCH management of HCL which is the executing agency for construction of the building claims that since it was puja season most of the labourers are absent but in reality most of the workers are locals.
It was also stated that several households were evicted from the site so as to make way for the project. The project was earmarked to benefit around forty households belonging to the BPL group.
Reacting sharply to the current state of affairs in the construction of the Housing Project in Mawprem, members of the dorbar shnong are of the opinion to file an RTI on the matter.
Meanwhile, Jaiaw legislator Paul Lyngdoh while sharing the concern of the Dorbar Shnong said that “The Dorbar Shnong of Mawprem should adopt a resolution and sent it to the Urban Affairs department seeking its reply on the inordinate delay of the housing Project to take off”.(SP News)
