Shillong March 8:As the whole world is celebratingInternational Women’s Day on the 8th of March, we the All India Council of Christian Women greet all women: May the celebrations of this day remind us of our dignity as women! May the observance of this day renew and rededicate us for the cause of women!
Across the world, various women’sgroups, organizations, churches, schools, colleges, institutions and movements are re-visiting and recapturing their stories, which evoke mixedfeelings of joy and pain. We celebrate the achievements, successes and triumphs of many women at various levels, local, national and international. Atthe same time we are mindful of the pain and suffering that so many women continue to undergo, making their everyday existence a nightmare. Beholdingtheir plight, we call upon all citizens of India to wake up, to open their ears to the cries of women for their healings, and to respondliberatively.
As AICCW we have chosen the theme‘Women Uniting for Peace and Justice’. We remind all about the courageous acts of women (as recorded in the book of Exodus) insafe-guarding the baby boy Moses, and raising him up to lead the liberation struggle of the Hebrews from their bondage in Egypt. At this juncture weurge all people, women and men to come together like the women in Exodus to fight together to liberate women from their bondages and sufferings inpatriarchal society. Together let’s be the voice for the voiceless, asserting the imperative option for the freedom and safety of women in Indiatoday.(SP News)
