Shillong, August 22: Acting on tip off the Special Cell of the Shillong Police nabbed Six extortionist from Madanryting this morning.

Police sources informed that these extortionist were wanted by the Assam Police in an extortion case

The arrested persons were identified as Deepak Thapa (29), Dilbur Ali (24), Rahidul Amin (24), Liakat Ali (42) all from Guwahati and two minor boys aged 17 years old from Mizo Veng in Happy Valley, Shillong.

According to Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem, it was informed that the six people were arrested from Madanriting, where they took shelter on Thursday at around 9.30am and along with them, a Bolero (AS 01 AV 8068) was also seized.

“The special cell of the Shillong Police received information about the extortionist taking shelter at Madanryting on Wednesday evening and subsequently these extortionists, who were wanted in various extortion cases and criminal intimidation, were arrested on Thursday morning” Syiem said.

Besides, it was also informed that the extortionists who were led by Liakat Ali (42) from Barpeta Guwahati were also wanted by the Assam Police since last year and the recent case involved extortion from a businessman in Guwahati, Syiem added.

When asked whether these extortionists have been involved in any extortion case in the city, the SP (City) said that there has been no such case registered against them in the city.

Meanwhile, the six extortionists have been handed over to the Assam police on Thursday evening.(SP News)
