Meghalaya electrified 124 villages from RVE programme

Shillong, March 8: Remote Village Electrification (RVE) for 6033 villages and hamlets in the country have been sanctioned during the 11th Plan and work on 5211 nos. of villages and hamlets have been completed in various states. The RVE programme and projects are sanctioned on case-to-case basis after proposals are submitted by the state notified implementing agencies as per the guidelines of the scheme.

The monitoring of implementation of RVE projects is carried out by the respective state notified implementing agencies. Third party monitoring by an agency appointed by the concerned state notified implementing agency is mandatory for final closure of the project. It is also the responsibility of the implementing agencies to ensure functionality of the systems after installation. The RVE programme is currently sanctioned for continuation up to March 31, 2013. However, the Ministry is in the process of developing a new scheme “Rural Area Energy Access Programme I” by modifying the existing RVE scheme.

In the NE Region, the details of the numbers of villages and hamlets completed during the Eleventh Plan are Arunachal Pradesh 141, Assam 1817, Manipur 106, Meghalaya 124, Nagaland 11 and Tripura 539.(SP News)
