Shillong, March 15: Handloom exhibition was organized by various government department both state and central government from time to time, but the crafts mens of the state of Meghalaya is yet to see the light of the day.
Many participant while speaking to SP News Agency said that the problems face by them is marketing what the government dose for them is taking them to various exhibition but they have not help them to fine the market for them.
This a week long handloom and textiles exhibition cum sale held at All Saints Cathedral Hall witness stunning range of handloom and handicrafted items to entice patrons into parting with some of their hard earned money.
The exhibition provides a platform for primary and economically underprivileged crafters,weavers to sell and display their work, exposed to new and larger audience and each items is subjected to a strictly handmade and with minimal use of machines and carefully selected which ensures that the craft is of high quality and that there are new items to choose from, as well as old favorites.
This has helped the artisans not only in the sale of the products but also to create awareness and popularization of various crafts to the consumers and craftsmen alike and also to determine future market demands.
It further helps them in incorporating better designs and also in improving productivity.
The ecofriendly handcrafted items like Cane and Bamboo items, basketries, flower vases, furniture’s, Tribal Jewelries, Dry flowers, Handloom Dress materials, Dolls and Toys , Pottery items, Wooden handicrafts and hosts of other miscellaneous crafts are being exhibited.
The exhibition saw the participation of artisans from across Khasi and jaintia districts of the state.(SP News)
