Shillong, Jan 31: Armed Garo militants kidnapped the brother of a
Meghalaya legislator last evening.
The banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is suspected to be
behind the abduction.
Naga M Sangma was kidnapped from his residence at Ghasuapara in South
Garo Hills district.
Sangma, a coal exporter, is the brother of Congress MLA from Baghmara
Samuel Sangma.
Ghasuapara is close to the Bangladesh border and police suspect the
hostage might have been taken away to the neighbouring country.
A search has been launched to locate him police said.
The coal exporter was slapped a demand of Rs 20 lakh by the GNLA last
year, which he refused to pay.
Last evening a group of five to six armed men barged into his
residence and took him away in a vehicle.(SP News)
