MMSA asked government to provide security to doctors

Shillong, Dec 19: Taking strong note on the recent assaults of doctors in Garo Hills, the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) urged upon the government to provide adequate security to all doctors and staffs posted in sensitive areas.

Pressing on the need for immediate attention, a delegation of the MMSA met the commissioner and secretary incharge of Health and Family Welfare and submitted a memorandum urging upon the government to expedite steps in to the matter which is of great concern.

Concerned over the repeated assaults and threats being penetrated upon the doctors from time to time especially in Garo Hills, the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) on Wednesday asked the government to provide adequate security to all doctors and staffs posted in sensitive areas.

MMSA general secretary Dr Aman War  said the fact that repeated assaults being penetrating upon the doctors especially in Garo Hills appeared that there is complete breakdown of law and order in the region. “Outlaws, dacoits, robbers and criminals are running the roost”, he added.

This statement was issued a week after a group of miscreants assaulted and looted Dr Apchan Sangma, a resident doctor of Mahendraganj Community Health Centre (CHC).

Besides, Dr War also mentioned that time and again, the MMSA had requested the government to provide security to the doctors and staff posted in sensitive areas but it has failed to do so.

The state executive committee will meet on December 22 to decide on the next course of action if there is no positive action from the government by then.

Meanwhile, it was also learnt the MMSA had also threatened to go for an indefinite strike if police fail to take action against the miscreants involved in the assault case.(SP News)
