Mawkyrwat April 13: As many as 18 villages under Mawkyrwat C&RD Block of South West Khasi Hills District were struck by a severe cyclone and hail storm on Thursday night at around 10:30pm.
As per spot assessment made by the District Administration, three villages were struck by a
severe cyclone whereby around 45 houses were damaged and displacing the residents. On the same
night a hail storm damaged to around 122 houses in 15 villages.
The three villages which were struck by the cyclone included Mawpat, Nongrim Mawpat and
Umdohlun whereby around 45 houses were damaged and displacing the residents and another
fifteen villages which were hit by the hail storm included Mawsyntiew , Rangblang Laitdom,
Rangblang Pombriew, Mawiong, Laitjyrnai, Tiehtaliar, Mawsaw, Sohpian, Domshrah, Rangblang
Sohsynniang, Rangblang Ä, Rangblang Nongbah, Mawblei, Sasniang and Thangmawstop village
in which around 122 houses were damaged.
Immediate relief materials such as relief grants, food and medical care had been disbursed to
all affected families under the supervision of the two EACs along with the Block Development
Officer C&RD Block Mawkyrwat. The displaced families are now lodged in the relatives and
neighbours homes of the respective villages. Thirty five persons with minor injuries were
treated by the Medical team at Umdohlun village. (SP News)
