Shillong, Sept 28: Eastern Air Command, Air Force (Upper Shillong) in association with “ROKO Cancer” an NGO organized a free cancer detection camp today .The camp was organized for women of Pomlum Village, situated adjacent to Eastern Air Command campus.The objective of the camp was to screen the Ladies for Oral cancer, Cervical cancer & Breast cancer. A Team of “ROKO CANCER”- an NGO dedicated towards this noble cause, performed PAP Smear for Cervical, Mammography for Breast cancer & a detailed oral examination for screening of Oral Cancer.
These tests were also carried for SANGINIS (Wives of Air Force Personnel) & women of other civilian staff . The aim of such initiatives, by the Indian Air Force is to continue its contribution toward the society with the message of “SAFETY FIRST BUT CARE ALWAYS”, which also happens to be the motto of this year for the health care providers.
The Doctors and Paramedics from Eastern Air Command educated the Ladies of Pomlum village on the ill-effects of smoking, chewing tobacco and emphasised on the importance of dental hygiene in an attempt to reduce the risk of Oral cancer. The camp was a success with overwhelming response from the ladies exceeding 200 participants.(SP News)
