Ampati, Oct 24:  A football match being held at the William A Sangma Memorial stadium in Mahandraganj, about 25 kms from the district headquarter Ampati, turned ugly after the collapse of the roof a neighbouring school, during the match. The incident happened at about 3 pm. Sources within the town said a few people received minor injuries due to the fall.

A crowd of more than 8,000 had gathered for the match played between two local clubs. With space at a premium, the crowd started to stand on the roof of the Mahendraganj Girls Secondary School, adjoining the stadium. Under the combined weight, the structure collapsed. Due to the height of the structure not being too high, there was no major report of injuries.

The DC of South West Garo Hills, Ram Singh confirmed the incident but said that the injuries were minor. He said there was only one person who was referred to the Nogorpara Hospital, but he too was discharged after treatment.
