MPHRC: Condemned death of under trial in Judicial Custody in West Garo Garo Hills District

Shillong, Jymmang 21: While expressing it strong voices of dissent to the sudden death of the under-trial prisoner Balsan S. Marak, the Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) is deeply disturbed by the continuing diabolical recurrence of torture perpetrated by the police of the state in their custody whose function is to protect the citizens and not to commit gruesome offences against them.

While slamming the Police Department for such tortious acts committed by its employees “we feel that any form of torture or cruel inhuman treatment in police custody, would fall within the inhibition of strong human rights abuses and other police brutality whether it occurs during the investigation or interrogation where in most cases the police themselves become law breaker and no civilized nations can permit that to happen” said Dino D. G. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.

We strongly demand for “an immediate suspension and transfer of the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Sing for his inconsistency as the guardian of law that gore human rights violation” said MPHRC.

“Government must repair the damage done by its officers under the shield of uniform and authority within the four walls of the police station or lock-up where the victim has become totally helpless” said MPHRC. (SP News)
