Shillong, July 8: Peter James Pyngrope Hanaman, a 1979 batch IPS of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer joined office on Monday as the new director general of police of Meghalaya.
He succeeded outgoing acting DGP Prem Singh. He was one among the four other senior IPS officers who were empanelled by a State Security Commission headed by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma from he was selected as the state police chief
Hanaman also said his priority is to have the rapist cop Nurul Islam face criminal charges for allegedly raping two minor sisters at a remote police station in South West Garo Hills district last month
Speaking to media soon after his joining, Hanaman said his main priority will be maintenance of Law and order and prevention and detection of Crime.
In the context of tackling crime in the state Hanaman that he has some perspective on how to resolve the militancy problems in the five districts of Garo hills even as he stressed that in tackling the militancy problem a strong political will is needed.(SP News)
