Tura, 9th Oct: With the MP elections just about 3 months away, the race for the ticket for the upcoming polls is hotting up. While there have been indications that the ticket for the Tura Constituency may go to someone absolutely new, the first person to throw his hat into the competition is Richard M Marak. While Richard may be new to the political front overall, he is sure he can live up to the aspirations of the people and provide an overall development to the people of the region.
Richard is currently the Elected General Secretary, Indian Youth Congress, Meghalaya State Committee a post which he is handling since 2012. He has been a part of the theatre scene in Garo Hills, acting in some himself and even being awarded for his performances overall. He is also the General Secretary for the A’chik Theatre and has been trying to improve the state of theatre for a long time. Richard is also the Vice Chairman of the Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board, Govt. of Meghalaya.
Richard, who hails from Purakhasia in South West Garo Hills said, “I am currently in Shillong to speak to the Congress team regarding the allocation of ticket for the Tura MP seat. The region has had some of the biggest names coming through from Meghalaya to the national scene. However, even after three decades, the region has hardly seen any development. Being a part of the region since birth, I understand the aspirations of the people.
The people are in absolute need for a better future, be it through education, livelihood programs or even infrastructure. The same needs to be heard at the Central Level and I am definite that if given the opportunity, I will be able to bring joy to the people of the region through my work.
The Tura seat has always been a very prestigious seat for the state and even for the NE as P A Sangma has been able to maintain his fiefdom for the seat. However, the recent drubbing in the MLA elections means the Congress has its first real chance to completely take over. The only problem for the Congress is the choice of a candidate, which it is supposed to submit by the 15th of October. (SP News)
