Shillong, June 13: The much awaited four laning project of Jorabad-Umiam road is slated to complete by March end 2014.
This was informed by the state Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma after a review meeting which was held on Thursday with the officials from the National Highway Authority of India in charge of North East.
Highlighting about the ongoing project, Dr Sangma informed that various issues dealing with executing the projects have been put in place.
“One is to ensure that while executing the project timeline should be able to maintain,” he said adding that even the challenges faced has to be overcome.
Dr Sangma also mentioned that even small issues has been looked into such as the building a surface of the road where there will be smooth flow of traffic.
He also mentioned that the NHAI have given an assurance that if there is any repairing to be done such as pot holes it will be completed within ten days.
Most importantly Dr Sangma also mentioned that since some stretch of the road pass through habitation areas therefore safety of pedestrians have been taken into consideration.
“Appropriate footpaths for pedestrians in the habitation areas,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Besides, he also informed improvement of the aesthetic part of the road in which there will be enough space to plant trees in order that the people will have the best driving experiences.
Meanwhile, he also urged upon the NHAI on the need to adhere to the time frame for completion of the project.(SP News)
