Night roadblockade in Jaintia Hills will go on as announced

Jowai, Jan 24: The two nights road blockade called by the AJYWO Central Governing Body, KSU-JHDU, FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle and HNYF-East Jaintia Zone on the 27th and 28th this month from 7PM to 5AM will go on as announced in protest of the government adamant attitude in repairing the dilapidated form of the National Highway 44 both in East and West Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya as per the press statement issued by the 4 NGOs.

“As of now the part of the NH 44 from Soomer West Jaintia Hills to Malidor in East Jaintia Hills has no proper concerned authority which is supposed to look after it, as the PWD (Rds) Central Division Jowai blames the National Authority of India for its bad shape, while the NHAI blames the Simplex Infrastructure for its dilapidated condition and while the the Simplex Infrastructure blames the NHAI and the PWD for its deplorable condition. The blame goes on like that from one authority to the other. The question now is, who is the real owner and caretaker of HN 44, who is supposed to look after its betterment?” said Mr M H Dkhar the President AJYWO Central Governing Body.

“This kind of blame to one another by the said authorities had made the said road to be like an orphaned with no parents to look after it. With this, the ones who are suffering are the public who travel along the said highway and not the said authorities. Even the part of this road from Soomer to Mookyndur which is supposed to be look after by the PWD itself has been also left unattended these days and it is now in its deplorable condition” M H Dkhar added.

“We respect the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, requesting us to withdraw the night road blockade but we have to go with it (Night Roadblockaded) as announce, as till date since the day our agitation programme is announced nothing had been done by the concerned authority to repair the said road. Unless the government immediately takes  up the matter now, very soon summer season will come and when that time comes, no repairing work could be done and the travelers will be in grave troubles.” Mr WT Rymbai President FKJGP Khliehriat Circle said in this statement.

“Besides paining while travelling along the said road, traveler eats dust and dirt. Not only travelers but the residents along the said    road and the poor police men who work day and night with double duties to regulate traffic jams due to the said dilapidated condition of the road” says Mr  SS Niangti, General Secretary KSU-JHDU.

“Therefore, in the interest of all concerned, we request the public and travelers of Meghalaya to support us in these two nights road blockade. We also request the people of the other state of North East India to support us in this issue, so that the government would hear us and see the problem faced by commuters or otherwise time will come when this road will be totally broken and the traffic will remain stagnant permanently” Mr Julius Nongtdu, President HNYF-EJZ said.(SP News)
