Shillong, May 08: The North Eastern Regional Review Meeting on Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) was held int Shillong under the Chairmanship of Smti. Vandana K. Jena, IAS, Secretary Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development in the presence of Shri Sandeep Dave, IAS, Joint Secretary Department of Land Resources and Shri P.S. Thangkhiew, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, Soil & Water Conservation Department .
The meeting was a review exercise on the performances of the implementation of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) in the North Eastern region and was attended by officials from the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development and Chief Executive Officers of State Level Nodal Agencies of all North Eastern States. In his introductory speech, Shri P.S. Thangkhiew gave a brief insight into the community situation in Meghalaya and stressed on capacity building to ensure better performances.
Other speakers at the inaugural session include Shri Sandeep Dave, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Land Resources and Smti. Vandana K. Jena, Secretary, Department of Land Resources who said that the North Eastern region is unique but that it has a lot of catching up to do to be at par with the rest of India. She exhorted that the potentialities of the North East be converted to realities.(SP News)
