Shillong, March 5: Though certain measures being imposed by the Election Commission over the use of muscle power and money during election, unfortunately these two powers plays its part during the recent concluded election,Dadengre MLA and NPP leader James K Sangma said on Tuesday.
Expressing concern over the use of money and musle power Sangma said that this is a disturbing trend which is emerging.
“The election commission was well aware of such malpractices for which it has put into place certain measures to prevent the same” adding that unfortunately, the menace cannot be dealt away.
“There have been instances where candidates managed to get away with such malpractices”, Sangma said.
Stating that money power and used of muscle power through the help of militant outfits is dangerous for democracy, Sangma said the government that comes to power should cease such actions and come up with appropriate steps to tackle the same.
Besides, the NPP leader also stated that there have been allegations in various pockets of the state especially in Garo Hills where certain groups used coersive power to force people not to vote for that particular candidate and it is up to the election commission to enquire into the matter and if such allegations turned out to be true, then it is very disturbing and unforntunate that these kinds of incidences happened in this elections.(SP News)
