Shillong, March 22: The Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) raised concern over the frequent power cut in Garo Hills as it greatly affect the students who is giving boards and universities examination.
Stating that the plight of the students has been greatly affected due to power failure, the NPP slammed the government for not doing enough to address the problems besides urging the government to constitute a house committee to look into the proper functioning of the MeECL as well as to give appropriate suggestions about power scenario in the state.
“The MeECL lack proper functioning and there has also been shortage of man power,” NPP legislator James Sangma said adding that there is a need to improve the functioning of the MeECL.
Informing that in just one month Garo Hills faced five times of power cut, Sangma questioned the government’s intention to address the issue, “Going by the frequency of power cuts which has started again today morning, shows the government is not serious at all and has tremendously failed to address problem in Garo hills region,” further adding that he was disallowed on two accounts in the assembly while raising the issue.
Further Conrad Sangma said, “ Many of the district headquarters in the state does not have the required manpower, further questioning “ When manpower is not sufficient, How can u expect the system to work?”(SP News)
