On the HNLC threat :The security of its citizens is not compromised in any way

Shillong, May 06: The attention of the State Government has been drawn to a news item appearing in the Shillong Times, Dated May 05,2014 under the caption “Release HANM members or face agitation: HNLC” where the outfit has demanded the release of the HANM President, Shri Lamphrang Kharbani and four others who were arrested on 2nd May 2014 failing which they have called for total shutdown of all State and Central Government offices for 4 days on May 8th and 9th, and again on May 12th & 13th.

In the statement issued today from the government said that, the State Government would like to reiterate its firm commitment to maintain law and order at all costs and to ensure that the security of its citizens is not compromised in any way. Members of the public in general and the Government employees in particular are exhorted not to pay any heed to this unreasonable call and to come out as they would on any normal day and carry on with their daily activities without any fear or apprehension of reprisals.

While condemning such unwarranted threat, the State Government would also like to appeal to the members of the public not to be intimidated by the call made by such vested interests and criminal elements, and reiterates its commitment to deal with such cases with a firm hand in keeping with its Constitutional obligation to ensure peace and a secure environment to all the citizens of the State.

Once again, Government takes this opportunity to appeal to all the citizens in the State to firmly denounce such anti-social acts, and to assist the law enforcing machinery in the dutiful discharge of its obligations.  (SP News)
