Nongstoin, May 02: Today early morning at around 2 AM down the cyclonic storm has hit the four villages in West Khasi Hills District, which is about 5KM from Nongstoin. In this natural calamities one person die and 28 others injured and many house where damage.
The Local MDC from the area Mr L G Nongsiej said that the magnitude of the storm is so strong that many houses where uprooted, the villages that where badly affected in this cyclone are, Mawkhniang, Mawsiej, Mawsiangbah, Nongkdiat. Mr Nanly Khardewsaw who die in the storm is from Mawsiej Village.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of the West Khasi Hills District, Mr JP Lakiang, said that according to their initial report that they received all the houses that where damage are 83, one person die, four seriously injured who where shifted to Shillong for treatment and twenty others where admitted at Nongstoin Hospital.
The District administration has set up their relief camp at Mawsiangbah and Mawkhnaing, the administration want to set yp also a camp at Mawsiej but the villagers refuse to give permission. All thus people whos house where badly damamge where kept at the relief camp. The affected villages are Umjaru, Mawrap- Mawlangniang, Nongkdiat, Mawsiangbah, Mawsiaj and Mawkhniang.(SP News)
