Shillong, March 22, 2013: Meghalaya State Commission for Women in collaboration with Social Welfare and Health and Family Welfare, Department organized an orientation Programme on matters relating to crime and violence against women and children, for Medical Officers and Police Personnel at State Resource Centre, Conference Room Civil Hospital, Shillong on 22nd March 2013. In her inaugural speech Mrs.Phanbuh said that issue on crime against women and children are rising. Violence against women and children explode anywhere, anytime and within any economic class. Violence can take the form of threats, verbal abuse, battering, rape and murder. It is an escalating pattern of coercive behavior which includes physical, sexual and psychological assault. To change the mindset of the people, it should revive the people on traditional values and educate on it, she added.
The topics for the programme are Speech on Gender and Power relation, Speech on forensic data collection in a clinical setting, Role of police with special emphasis on Crime against Women, and Law relating to Women and Child.(SP News)
