Painting workshop to promote Arts and culture

Shillong, March 4: A six day Painting workshop was organised by the department of arts and culture government of Meghalaya at State Central library shillong kick started on Monday.

Inaugurated by Regional Director of Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR) N. Munish Sing the workshop was organised with an aim to promote art and culture and to imbibe the youth into the colourful world of painting.

Participated by 30 students from the various schools of the state, the workshop will dwell upon three categories of painting, the first ‘still life’ followed by ‘water colours’ and life study.

During the workshop the students will be guided by renowned artist of the state- Benedict Hynniewta, Careen J Langsteih and Treibor Mawlong.

Addressing the gathering at the opening day of the workshop, Regional Director of Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR) N. Munish Singh stressed on the need to promote painting skills amongst the children and the youth in the state.

He also stressed on the need to bring up painting in Meghalaya and workshops like these will further the cause for it to grow.

“Students will have good opportunity to learn and grow,” he said.

Suggesting that more emphasis should be laid on the regions ethnic culture and tradition Singh said, “Our rich heritage and culture should be highlighted in the paintings as it is colourful.”

He further said that the number of participation is encouraging and hoped that the students make the best out of the workshop.(SP News)
