SHILLONG, Dec 16: Stressed by the on call Garo Hills Shut Down called by the faction Garo militant outfit, the Achik National Volunteers Council (B) scheduled on December 20, the People’s Movement for Democratic Rights (PMDR) a conglomeration of different local NGO’s of the district urged upon the militant outfit to call off the shut down.
“We, the People’s Movement for Democratic Rights (PMDR) humbly appeal upon the ANVC-B to kindly call-off their scheduled ‘Garo Hills Shut-Down’ on December 20, since these coming days are peak festive season and joyous days with Christmas preparations said Vice-Chairman PMDR, Lalnunthari D. Shira while appealing the outfit to call off their shut down.
“The Garo hills shut down will disrupt the peace and normalcy throughout Garo Hills which in itself contradicts the very essence of the Christmas spirit of peace, love and giving,” the Vice Chairman said.
She also added that PMDR, at the same time appeals upon all the ‘Armed Struggling Groups’ operating in Garo hills and the Government to suspend all operations against each other on mutual grounds considering the Christmas Spirit and the sentiments of the general public and also which could be considered as a Christmas Gift for people living in Garo hills.(SP News)
