Shillong, August 20: In connection with the murder of three persons who were alleged for practicing witchcraft (Men-ai-ksuid) in Smit the police has arrested a total of 12 persons and has today confirmed their involvement in the crime and said that there is a conspiracy in the motive.
In a press conference held today, the Superintendent of Police (EKH) M Kharkrang informed that all the arrested twelve persons are the close relatives of the victims while the court has granted the arrested persons 7 days police custody.
Kharkrang said, “These 7 days will be a very crucial period and we are hoping to get more information.”
The SP said, “A lot of awareness programs have been conducted even at Smit but unfortunately people have not understood,” further saying, “Enough is enough. Nobody has the right to take the law in their own hands.”
“We will make it sure that the case is investigated with logical conclusion,” Kharkrang said.
Making an interesting point over the recent incident that took three precious lives on mere suspicion SP (City) Vivek Syiem said, “Superstitious belief has become like an epidemic hence study of its root cause is the need of the hour.”
Meanwhile Vivek Syiem urges all the institutions of the society to include its study in the academic courses.
A case against the twelve of which six are females have been registered at Madanriting Police Station under case number.62(07)13 under section 120(B)/302/353/324/325/145/14/
