Shillong, December 6, 2013: The Meghalaya Police of East Khasi Hills District are not only armed to tackle crime and other vices daily but in showing their human face they have today conducted a check-up camp especially for under privileged children.
The check-up camp was held in collaboration with Reach Shillong Ministries, (RSM) an agency that looks after under privileged children who live in the streets.
Speaking on the occasion held at the Police Hospital Unit Shillong this afternoon, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said that the police are always willing to work with the objective of serving the society in any other means.
“We appreciate the initiative taken by Reach Shillong Ministries and we will work together with other agencies also to help those who are in need as you know although we are the police, but we do have a human face as well.”
Altogether, 25 children had undergone medical check-up during the program and were prescribed medication.
According to the police doctor Dr. S Khonglah, who is in-charge of the Police Hospital cum- DOT Center, most of the children are suffering from skin disease while others have symptoms of cold and flu and malnutrition.
“These children are obviously under nourished, but they are more or less healthy,” Dr S Khonglah said while adding, “they are always welcome here for check-up and medication.”
Present on the occasion were also SP (City) Vivek Syiem, Prasad, and Pastor Rueben of RSM.(SP News)
