Shillong, December10: In what seems to be a major blow to the Congress party before the assembly elections he General secretary of the Tripura Congress Party Pradyot Bikram Kishore has resigned from his post. The reasons behind his resignation remain a mystery but sources close to him havesaid that he was unhappy with the developments within the Congress Party and the state leadership at large.
It is said that his resignation from the post will send conflictingsignals to the party workers especially the rural belt where he isconsidered the biggest draw amongst the tribal votes. Congress and itsally INPT have been struggling to regain its lost ground from the CPM for a long time and this move may be the final nail in the hopes ofthe congress led alliance coming to power.
Pradyot Bikram Kishore ᷨo is also the head of the royal house ofTripura has been extremely active in the tribal belt and has beeninstrumental in rebuilding the congress organization in recent years,it maybe mentioned that both his parents Maharaja Kirit Bikram an dBibhu kumara Devi were Loksabha members of the parliament andextremely influential leaders in the state.But recently he had indicated that certain syndicate have beenactively trying to frustrate him and prevent the Tribal face withinthe party from rising to a prominent place.
On previous occasions he has openly criticized the lack oftransparency within the leadership and the parties stand on variouscontentious issues such as illegal migration ,Afspa and the Tribal andforest bills act, something the State Congress is yet to come clear ontheir opinion on .His close relationship with the INPT has also ensured that some of thesenior party leadership has been reluctant watchers at his suddenrise.
Reacting to his resignation several leaders from INPT and Congress have expressed shock and Dismay, however the Congresspresident Sudip Roy Barman has yet to comment on the subject.It remains to be seen what this impact will have for the congressparty before the election but one thing is for sure ,the departure ofthe biggest Tribal face from the Congress party will definitely haveits dent in the state .(SP News)
