Shillong, December 12: In its ongoing efforts to seek fulfillment of the solemn National Commitment, John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, MIDC, Govt of Meghalaya, Chairman, Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar, & Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, met Smt. Preneet Kaur, Union Minister of State, External Affairs, in the discussions the Union Minister was informed about the Constitutional Anomaly, wherein the 25 Khasi States, who signed the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement also known as the Standstill Agreement, did not sign the Instrument of Merger as done by more than 300 Princely Indian States, hence the Constitutional Anomaly and conflicts exist on many areas.
Further the Union Minister of State, was informed about the decision and directive on 26 April 2012, by the National Commission for Schedule Tribes,(NCST) directing the Ministry for Tribal Affairs to address this long pending issue of providing recognition to Dorbar of Khasi States.
A Souvenir brought out for the first time in english by Dorbar of Hima Khyrim, Smit, ‘Pomblang bad Shad Hima Khyrim, 2012, was presented to Smt. Preneet Kaur, Union Minister of State External Affairs, Govt of India. The Union Minister of State, was impressed with the rich traditions that have been preserved and protected, and expressed her desire to visit Meghalaya in the near future.
As a followup to the recent developments and especially relating to a recent meeting with Dr Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister, Govt of Meghalaya, on 28th November 2012, who indicated to the possible and likely amendment of the Sixth Schedule as part of the ongoing talks with the ANVC, the Grand Council of Chiefs will meet on 14 Dec to at 11 Am at Demthring, Shillong, to deliberate on the matter and also to take a decision on the demand by Chiefs to convene an emergent Dorbar Ri (People’s Parliament) in January 2013 to discuss these issues at the Peoples Parliament.(SP News)
