Ampati, August 07: The Southwest Garo Hills district with its headquarters at Ampati celebrated the first foundation day here at Ampati Students’ Field with Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul M Sangma as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mukul Sangma informed that all concerned offices would be occupied by concerned officers within the next two months in all the four newly created districts.
Chief Minister stressing on the importance of the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign Movement in providing livelihood generation opportunities for the youth stated that competitiveness among the youth in applying for jobs was imperative. A Career Guidance and Counselling scheme has been started in every district with the aim of providing the youth with a right to a secure future stated.
In his address Dr Sangma stressed on the need to take care of the fragile environment. Cautioning people indulging in crimes against the community Dr Sangma stated that they would be punished according to the law of the land. During the last 2-3 years, Meghalaya had been one of the fastest growing states in the country according to the Planning Commission.
He also urged the people to create an enabling environment to respect each other and to promote communal harmony so that the glorious past of Garo Hills might be restored in Garo Hills.
On the day solar lamps also were distributed to the Class X students of the district by the Chief Minister.
Others who spoke on the day included Dr. RC Laloo, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Mr. Zenith M Sangma, Minister for Youth Affairs, etc, Mr. Noverfield R Marak, Parliamentary Secretary for PHE and Urban Affairs and Mr. Alphonse A Sangma, CEM, GHADC.
Earlier in the function, Mr. PK Boro, ADC, offered the welcome address and Smt. Mary T Sangma, ADC, proposed the vote of thanks.(SP News)
