Shillong, Nov 25: In the first match of Platinum Jubilee Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament organized by Shillong Cricket Association, Riatsamthiah SC defeated Aurobindo CC by 6 wickets. Riatsamthiah SC won the toss and chose to field. Riatsamthiah’s discipline bowling and sharp fielding restricted their opponents Aurobindo CC to score 77 runs all out in 20 overs. Ujwal Singh scored 21 runs of 31 balls while Aiborlang Wahlang claimed 3 wickets.
In reply, Riatsamthiah reached the target 78 runs for 4 wickets in 15 overs. Shanbok Wankhar scored 33 runs of 45 balls. Sarthak Batra claimed 1 wickets. Shri F.R. Kharkongor, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya inaugurated the tournament by calling on the youth to take sports professionally and wanted Shillong to be the epicentre of Cricket in the state.
He called upon the youth to emulate the likes of Mahendra Dhoni who came out of a small centre but yet excelled. ‘There is no hindrance to reach the top if one is really determine and works hard to achieve’ he said. Others who spoke included Shri Naba Bhattacharjee, President, SCA and Shri Gideon Kharkongor, General Secretary, SCA.
