Ribhoi needs green revolution since most of the forest has been degraded: Lapang

 

Shillong, December 13, 2013:- A two day Chief Minister year of the youth for Green Campaign organized by the Ribhoi District Administration was today inaugurated by Dr. D.D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the government of Meghalaya at Pahamsyiem NSCA Mini stadium, Nongpoh.

In his inaugural  speech, Dr. Lapang lauded the District Administration for organizing the programme for the benefit of the people of the District especially the youth and students who have taken part in   different competitions during the festival. He said that Ribhoi District is blessed for its fertility and richness in natural resources and he strongly urged upon the people particularly the students to change their mindset and to do away  with negative mentality. He also appealed to the Students community that they should not depend entirely on Government job  after completion of their studies.

He further said that the world is full of competition and everyone  should also march with the time so that we could be at par with the rest of the country and to succeed in life in every aspect. “Humanity is great and love  is the greatest investment in life” he said. He called upon the student  always to be humble and never to forget their origin and their culture. He said that Ribhoi needs green revolution since most of the forest has been degraded. Conservation and protection of the environment is the duty of every one in order to survive, he said.

Earlier, the programme started  with  Marathon for boys and girls  from ST. Paul’s School to Pahambir and culminated back at the starting point.

The programme also included painting, Slow food competition,  exhibition cum sale of eco- friendly products , short play on SVEEP programme , Marathon, pugilist show by Ribhoi Boxing Association and skit competition.(SP News)
