Jowai, Nov 24: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) of the Narpuh area demanded from the state governm
ent that it’s should up an independent inquiry to go into the depth while river Lukha in East Jaintia Hills District turn blue during this month since 2007 said the president of the KSU Siros Lamare.
The KSU president said that this river turn blue only on this month since 2007, this has become annul phenomena. The KSU rejected the survey done by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) blaming that this happen due to coal mining in the area. The KSU is convince that these thing happen due to the chemical waste that were released from cement factory during this month.
The KSU also threaten that if the state government is not setting up an independent inquiry the organization will go all out to see that this river which vital for the villagers settling along the river bank is protected. The people of the area who deepen on this river for their daily need have suffer a lot said the general secretary Mr P Siangshai.(SP News)
