School Teachers Association

Shillong, Dec 17: With so much of problems and hardships faced by the school teachers of the state the teachers association under the banner of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) as well as the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) recently met with the Union minister Human Resource Development to discuss at length on the problems faced by the teachers of the state in terms of getting monthly salary besides others.

Addressing a press conference in the city here on Monday president of the KJDSTA ED Nongsiang informed that these two associations have submitted a memorandum to the union minister and informed him of the problems encountered by the teachers in the state.

Nongsiang also informed that the teachers have apprised him of different scenarios of schoolings in the state which includes operation black board, primary school, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools.

Besides he also informed that the schools were also run in different systems consisting of  government, non government, ad-hoc, SSA and deficit schools and out of which even the payment of salaries were also differentiated teachers faced whereby some only three thousand, five thousand, six thousand and so on.

He also informed that in the state as a whole there were about 711 schools under operation blackboard, 12,740 schools under government aided and 37,675 government schools.

“Having many schools operating in different systems has cause numerous problems especially in the mode of disbursement of salaries”, Nongsiang said adding that there were teachers who were never get paid even after three months or so.

Further, he also mentioned that teachers in rural areas especially face the brunt as it is very difficult task for them to teach in rural areas whereby the students solely depend on the teachers.

“This cause problems especially for those teachers serving besides government schools where they acquired lesser salaries compared to them”, he said.

Meanwhile, Nongsiang said that these teachers urged upon the minister to look into the matter and addressed the issues concerning the teachers the state.(SP News)
