Shillong team declared winners in the 3rd Shito RYU SKA Cup Karate Championship

THE WINNING ARMY KARATE TEAM WITH LT GEN RS PANWAR GOC 101 AREA ON RETURN TO SHILLONGShillong, May 13: Karatekas from Army Karate Node, Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong were declared team winners in the 3rd Shito RYU Seiko Kai Asia Cup Karate Championship held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from 03-05 May 2013.

There are 20 teams from India and one each from Srilanka, Nepal and Malaysia participated in the Championship.  The Army team won eight gold, one Silver and one Bronze medal in 10 events in the competition.

The team on return was felicitated by General Office Commanding 101 Area,         Lt Gen RS Panwar, SM, VSM at Headquarter 101 Area. The General complemented the team for the excellent performance and wished them all the best for future. The Army Karate Node was established at Assam Regimental Centre in the Year 2007 since then the Army Karatekas have improved very much.

The hard work and dedication of the Army Karate Team and Coach Havildar Sawan Kumar has paid dividends in the form of these 10 medals at New Delhi. Now the focus of team is to do well in the forthcoming 26th Karate Nationals in the month of August.  The team has not only brought good name to the Assam Regimental Centre, 101 Area, but also to the entire North East.
