Shillong, Jan 27: Meghalaya to raise a special multi task forces in the department of police to deal with the internal security problems in the state, the proposal was submitted before the cabinet for its clearance.
Talking to reporters after the cabinet meet, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said, “Proposal for the creation of special multi task forces in the department of police. It was stressed wherein Government must invest adequately to ensure that we are capable of addressing the concern in respect of internal security.”
He further said, “ there is a need to strengthen the internal security apparatus is the duty of the state government since law and order is the responsibility of the state Government.”
Giving an elaborate detail of the special multi task forces, Home Minister Roshan Warjri said that the force will be known as Special Force 10 which will rather give it a thriller title. Not only for counter insurgency has operation will the force be given special task to deal with communal disharmony and agitations.
“The special multi task forces will be named as ‘special force 10’ the force will have ten companies. They will be dealing with counter insurgency, as well as other problem like riot control, communal disharmony as well as agitations,” Warjri said after the cabinet meeting in Shillong.
It may be remind that the year 2013 witness longest agitation and the raising of such battalion which will also be tasked to deal with agitation gives a clear signal.
While the strength of the force will be 1795 including the supporting staff, one company of the battalion will be fully reserved for women.
The chief Minister also said, “A very special training infact multifaceted special training will be given to the commandos and the officers of this battalion to deal with any problem. “
He said, “ This will help in strengthening our approach in dealing with the internal security of the state.”
About the necessity of such battalion, the chief Minister said, “all these years whenever we have adverse problem we have run pillar to post in pursuing with Government of India to get special additional forces for deployment of short period of time. Number of occasion these forces are withdrawn based on some emergencies which comes often in managing the forces in respect of the whole country as per the paramilitary forces are concern. “
He added saying, “Therefore, home department is actually asked to work on a proposal where we will have beside the existing battalion, beside strengthening of the existing forces in the normal battalion we want to have a special multi task force in the police department to attend to various challenging responsibilities of the police organisation particularly with the special focus in dealing with the counter insurgency operations and in maintaining other law and order situation in given challenging circumstances.”(SP News)
