Shillong, Jan 21: The Council for Protection of Civil rights (CFPCR) hitted hard on the government blaming that it has done nothing to improve the condition of children engaged in child labour and has not impart free education to them.

Claming that the state government has not done anything for the welfare of the children President of CFPCR, Wanplielad J Pohshna said that all though free and compulsory education for the children aged from 6-14 years has been made a fundamental right in the constitution of India.

“It’s a half hearted action of the government to mitigate the suffering of these children,” Pohshna said.

He also said that the officers of the labour department in some cases may stop a child from working as a labour, but the government has no scheme to rehabilitate a child labour.

Expressing concerned over the situation, the Council therefore urged the government to come up with scheme of rehabilitation of children before taking steps for controlling child labour.(SP News)
