Shillong, June 20: Students of Army school happy valley were the proud winners in inter school essay and drawing competition organized by the Government of Meghalaya, office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District – Disaster Management Authority.
The competition was held as part of state level awareness programme amongst the school children on Earthquake management, to commemorate the 117th anniversary of Shillong earthquake of 12 June 1897. Twelve schools of Meghalaya participated in the competition. The students of Army school Happy valley were awarded for their outstanding performance in the competition.
Among the prize winners were, Ms Iarikynti Lyngdoh won IInd prize in essay competition senior level. Shantanu Dhar bagged Ist prize in painting competition junior level. Sakshi Narwal and Ananya Sarkar were awarded consolation prize for essay and painting competition respectively, said Group Captain Amit Mahajan Defence PRO.
There was whole hearted participation from the students of Army school happy valley Shiilong. The purpose of the competition was to enhance the awareness amongst the students on issues like earthquake and disaster management, and how to safeguard against massive earthquakes. Meghalay and the North East are prone to Earthquakes.(SP News)
