Supream Court ban mining of bauxite in Odhisha

Shillong April 18: Today,  the  tribals  of  Niyamgiri  Hills  in  Odisha  have  received  a  reprieve  from  the  Hon’ble  Supreme  Court’s  Ruling  to  continue  with  the  ban  on  mining  of  bauxite  by  both  the  UK  based  Vedanta  Resources  &  the  Odisha  State  Government.

It’s  been  a  long  struggle  for  the  tribals  there  and  for  those  subscribing  and  advocating  for  leaving   untouched  with  tribals  lands,  livelihood,  customs  &  traditions  and natural  resources,  it  definitely  augurs well.

There  are  still  many  miles  to  go  in  many  tribals  areas  &  lands  in  different  parts  of  the  country,  for instance,  the  anti-Posco  movement  in  Odisha  itself,  the  anti-dam  movement  in  NEI,  the  anti-uranium  mining  movement  in   Meghalaya and  many  others, thank  you  Hon’ble  Supreme  Court  for  the  ban.(SP News)
