Khliehriat,Dec 22: Braving the cold weather, the residents of khliehriat in east jaintia hills district dance to the rythm of songs played by various local artists during the musical extravaganza called Symphony 2012 an evening of music organised by East jaintia hills district Arts and culture society on Friday.
The mega event was the first of its kind being organised in the newly created district with an aimed to uplift tourism potential that east jaintia hills has to offer.
Stressing on the need to promote and showcase local talents the Deputy Commissioner Abhishekh Chandra while giving the inaugural address said, “Such event will open a platform for young talented artist to showcase their talents”.
Expressing concern that though the state has plenty of talented people but yet untapped the Chandra said that the government is trying its level best to explore the untapped talents hidden especially amongst the youth adding that through such platform will enable to tapped the hidden talents as well as to develop the art of music.
He also said that Jaintia hills district in particular has immense talents but most of them gone wasted, while lamenting on this he said, “the district administration is endeavor to urge upon the government to set up a music academy in jaintia hills district”.
Besides he also mention that though that such a platform was the first initiative yet the government will continue to strive ahead in bringing more of such platforms in near future.
Meanwhile,PHE Minister Shitlang Pale also stressed on the fact that talents amongst the youth needs to be tapped.
The musical evening which adds up to the festive mood saw performances by leading local artises who make a trip to khliehriat to enthralled the audience with their assorted numbers.
Local talents like Gracyl ropmay, Merlvin mukhim, Christopher Kurbah, Ram Suchiang, Felix, the band Colours and Strait Brothers. (SP News)
